Exploring the South of Malta: My First Weekly Tour with Lexema

When I arrived in Malta for my internship at Lexema, I knew I would discover much more than a workplace.

One of the things I was most excited about was joining the weekly tours organised for Erasmus+ participants. After all, one of the reasons I chose to study Project Management is my passion for travelling, learning from different cultures and meeting people from around the world.

This week, our destination was the beautiful south of Malta.

Starting the Adventure

Our day started early at Sliema Ferries, where everyone met before boarding the coach at 9:15 a.m..

Marsaxlokk: Malta's Colourful Fishing Village

Our first stop was Marsaxlokk, one of Malta's most iconic fishing villages.

Walking along the harbour, it was impossible not to notice the traditional luzzu boats, painted in bright colours and gently floating on the water. The peaceful atmosphere, the fresh sea breeze and the local market made it the perfect place to experience authentic Maltese culture.

It felt completely different from the busier tourist areas and showed another side of the island that many visitors never get to experience.

St. Peter's Pool: Nature at Its Best

Next, we reached St. Peter's Pool, a natural swimming pool carved into the limestone cliffs.

The crystal-clear water and dramatic coastline made it one of my favourite places of the day. Some students couldn't resist taking photos from every angle, while others simply enjoyed the incredible view.

It's one of those places that reminds you why Malta is so unique.

A Peaceful Stop at the Chinese Garden

After the coast, we visited the Chinese Garden of Serenity.

The atmosphere changed completely. Surrounded by gardens, traditional architecture and quiet paths, it was the perfect place to slow down for a while.

Sometimes, during an Erasmus experience, it's nice to take a break from the busy routine and simply enjoy a peaceful moment.

Dingli Cliffs: A View You Never Forget

One of the highlights of the tour was definitely the Dingli Cliffs.

Standing at Malta's highest point and looking out over the Mediterranean Sea was breathtaking. The cliffs offer one of the island's most spectacular panoramic views, making it easy to understand why this is such a popular stop for visitors.

Moments like these remind you how lucky you are to experience a country beyond its cities.

Discovering Mdina

Our final stop was Mdina, Malta's famous Silent City and one of the island's most fascinating historical landmarks.

Walking through its narrow, honey-coloured streets felt like stepping back in time. Surrounded by medieval architecture, peaceful alleyways and breathtaking viewpoints, Mdina offers a completely different atmosphere from anywhere else on the island.

As the day came to an end, it was the perfect place to slow down, take in the beauty of Malta's rich history and enjoy the unique charm that makes this city so unforgettable.

By 4:30 p.m., we returned to Sliema, tired but full of new memories.

More Than a Tour

Looking back on the day, I realised that these weekly tours are much more than sightseeing.

They're an opportunity for Erasmus participants to connect with each other, discover the island beyond their internship locations and create memories that often become the most meaningful part of the experience.

And after my first weekly tour with Lexema, I can already say that Malta has once again surprised me.

I can't wait to discover where next week's adventure will take us.
