At Lexema, we believe that Erasmus+ mobility and Job Shadowing programmes should create opportunities for professionals to observe, exchange knowledge, and explore real working environments from new perspectives.
Last week, we hosted a two-week Job Shadowing Programme in Malta in collaboration with the Società Italiana di Medicina e Sanità Penitenziaria (SIMSPe-Onlus), offering participants direct exposure to the field of penitentiary healthcare.
The experience brought together healthcare, education, and social services professionals in a multidisciplinary learning journey focused on cooperation, well-being, and professional exchange.
🔍 Learning through observation and exchange
Job shadowing provides a unique form of professional learning because it is based on direct observation and real-life interaction.
Rather than focusing only on theory, participants were able to:
observe operational procedures
discuss professional approaches with local experts
compare practices between countries
reflect on challenges and opportunities within penitentiary healthcare systems
This exchange of perspectives is one of the key values of international mobility programmes, especially in specialised sectors where continuous learning and cooperation are essential.
🔐 A visit to Corradino Correctional Facility
One of the most significant moments of the programme was the visit to Corradino Correctional Facility, Malta’s main correctional institution.
The experience offered a deeper understanding of how healthcare can play a fundamental role within correctional environments, supporting both individual well-being and social rehabilitation processes.
💬 Voices from the experience
One of the most valuable aspects of this mobility was the direct feedback from participants, who described the experience as both professionally enriching and personally impactful.
This Job Shadowing Programme in Malta represented a meaningful opportunity to explore the role of healthcare within correctional environments through direct observation, dialogue, and professional exchange.
At Lexema, we are proud to support mobility experiences that create real impact — not only for participants, but also for the organisations and communities involved.
